Boyd Webb said that he used photography because it was an essential instrument of our time and a flexible medium, enabling it to be used in many ways and for almost endless purposes. Photography is supremely able to exalt every aspect of reality, bypassing and subverting any preestablished hierarchy. His tableaux vivants, like plays in the theater of the absurd, represent situations in a fragile balance between truthto-life and nonsense, between message and allegory, verification and deception.
