In 1961 Oldenburg opened a space in his studio to which he gave the same name as an environment he had recently presented: The Store. The objects exhibited and sold there such as Roast Beef were brightly painted plaster sculptures and enamel painted reliefs inspired by the food, clothing and other commodities the artist encountered in the shops of his neighborhood.
