In 1963 Jörg Immendorff began his studies in art as a pupil of Joseph Beuys. In 1976, together with A.R. Penck, he formed the ‘German-German Action Alliance,’ beginning a phase of intense artistic production focused on painting and its political connotations. Ewiges Braunhemd (Eternal Brown Shirt) belongs to a series of allegorical paintings about German historical and political realities.
