John McCracken produced his first planks in 1966. They were made out of plywood coated with pigmented fiberglass and polyester resin, sanded and waxed to achieve a flawless shiny surface that reflects light. Monochromatic, each plank is meant to appear as if color itself is the material from which the works are made.
