Matthias Schaller

  • 1965

Born and trained in Germany, Schaller inherited the taxonomic and serial approach to photography from the German school. With masters such as August Sander and the Bechers, he shared a stringent method of visual cataloguing. However, his long familiarity
with Italy, and Venice in particular, has enabled him to absorb a more narrative aesthetic that is sensitive to the atmospheric qualities of space.
