Untitled is exemplary of Serra’s early work, which was close to the conceptual framework of Process Art and the Anti-Form movement in that it valued the actual process of the making of the work and explored the physical properties of materials. The materials coming from the industrial world that are favored by the artist at the time, such as lead, vulcanized rubber and fiberglass, are left to the effects “of tension / of gravity / of entropy / [...] / of inertia / of equilibrium / [...] / of location.”
