In an increasingly industrialized world, with its rhythms marked by precise, accelerated times and mechanisms, much Italian art at the end of the 1960s raised the question of the dilation and displacement of space-time, the question of eternity, as a mental
representation of the poetic dimension of infinity. Through synthetic and minimalist installations, accompanied by titles and often by writings of ethereal lyricism, Pier Paolo Calzolari combines and harmonizes everyday and timeless objects with technological devices. In his work, art and life, literature and technology influence each other in an interplay of references that constitute a contemporary version of alchemical practice, often through the use of organic materials such as tobacco, banana leaves and musk, as well as malleable metal alloys such as lead and brass.
